Our team has been doing an immense amount of cutting edge research about the General Motors (GM)/Metropolitan Casualty Insurance Company (Met) free auto insurance for a year with purchase of a new GM vehicle. This is what we discovered.

Scenarios:
1) A husband and wife has two vehicles and is purchasing a new GM car. Available to them is the insurance coverage for that vehicle for free. Should they get the free insurance? What happens to their current two vehicles?

Yes this new vehicle is covered with Met. but what coverage limits and deductible?

Cancellation from current insurance company (no coverage for the other two vehicles)

No Umbrella coverage available

Lose auto & home discount

2) A company is purchasing a new GM truck to transport thier tools and equipment. Again offered to them is the insurance coverage for that vehicle for free. Whats the coverage limits here?

Our conclusion:

There is an extreme severe consequence in Free insurance.

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!

Regence Medical Insurance

Clarifications about continuity of care at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center
Regence is negotiating with Peace Helth St. Joseph Medical Center (PHSJ) in bellingham regarding 2011 reimbursement rates. They continue to work with PHSJ and are still hopeful that a resolution will be reached. However, their current agreement is still on track to end on March 31, 2011. Therefore, they notified their members of the potential termination. If they fail to reach a resolution, PHSJ will become an out-of-network provider effective April 1.

Members will be albe to receive care from PHJS for at least 90 days after April 1 for the following conditions:

- an ongoing treatment plan, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy
- Pregnancy in the 3rd trimester through six weeks postpartum
- High-risk pregnancy
- Hospital stay; inpatient rehab; skilled nursing facility; or confinement in a
longterm, acute-care facility
- Recent, major inpatient surgery still within the global follow-up period (six to
eight weeks)
- Surgical treatment for a condition requiring multiple surgeries (such as cleft
palate repair)
- Certified hospice care for a terminal illness with a life expectancy of six months
or less
- Recent major trauma injury
- Behavioral health treatment

Now that summer's in full swing, it's a good time to get your backyards in shape for the season's get-togethers and activities.

Inspect your play area - Your backyard swing set and other playground equipment should have plenty of shock-absorbing materials-such as wood chips or sand-underneath and on the perimeter. Replenish those materials if they look skimpy.

De-clutter - Put away toys, tools and lawn equipment.

Clean before cooking - Before firing it up, give your grill and its grates a good cleaning with soapy water. Invest in extra protection - Buy a grill pad or splatter mat to place under your grill. These naturally heat-resistant pads made of composite cement or plastic will catch grease that misses the drip pan and help prevent a flare-up.

Tomorrow is National Bike-to-work day and I at am proud that Kelley Insurance will be participating. This means an early departure from the house tomorrow morning; about 7:15 for myself, that is if I want to make it to work on time. No harm from an early rise of course, it will bring a new appreciation for the fresh morning air as I enjoy it from the seat of my bicycle instead of my car. Indeed the bicycle is a superior tool of transportation. Bicycles definitely occupy less space than our clunky cars do...We could fit enough bicycles in one parking spot to commute everyone in our office to and the office. Aside from the space we would save we would all get healthier while taking care of our exercise for the day. Maybe giving up the car and biking to work every day wouldn't be such a hard task to cope with.

A word to the wise: carry your auto ID card IN YOUR VEHICLE, in addition to your auto registration form. Be sure to also have your driver's license readily available should you be stopped or detained for ANY REASON. It is surprising the number of folks who don't have their ID card for that insurance policy term, nor do they have on their person, their driver's license. These three items are MANDATORY at the scene of an accident, at a traffic stop, or any other auto-related incident -no one wants to be cited for lack of any of these items...we have card-holders for just this purpose - come see us!

"SAFETY FIRST" - a GOOD idea whether we're driving our vehicles, working at home or in our place of employment. Just by following a few well-known pointers, the difference between a safe trip and a serioius injury or death, are but a "heartbeat" away. Use your seat belt (and be sure all passengers do so also); refrain from using your cel phone (and texting is a well-known no-no while driving). If you MUST talk on your cel, pull over to the shoulder, get out of the traffic lane, to give your caller your full attention. Child restraint seats need to be properly installed and maintained to insure the well-being of our most precious passengers - our little ones. Drive with your lights on, conscientiously observe the posted speed limit, and be willing to drive SLOWER than the limit in impaired weather conditions. Remember, a few extra minutes might mean the difference between and life and death situation - your own and that of others.

Liability is protection for accidents you, a family member or authorized driver is responsible for.
Underinsured motorist pays for medical expense, lost wages and other damages when you, a family member, passenger of your car or an authorized driver are injured in an accident caused by a driver who does not have enough insurance, or none at all. This is another reason you should consider increasing your limits, the maximum limit you can have is equal to your liability limits.

Auto Insurance is primary over Medical Insurance. The auto liability payments do not have limitations on what doctors you see or how much therapy or rehabilitation will be paid for. Medical Insurance is a contract and it dictates how, when and what treatments and limits will be paid.

PIP (personal injury protection) with limits of $10,000 or $35,000 is available. This coverage to cover you or your passengers injured is an auto accident. This protection is for at-fault or not at-fault accidents.
Some of the expenses this coverage will pay for are medical expenses, income continuation, household services and funeral expenses. This coverage pays out first.

How Much Insurance is Enough?

Most people purchase auto insurance because is it the law and because they want protection for their family and personal assets.

Washington Auto Insurance Requirements are:

$25,000 for bodily injury expenses, per person
$50,000 for combined bodily injury expenses (maximum)
$10,000 for damage to another person’s property

Liability pays for bodily injury and property damage the at-fault driver causes. When the claim exceeds your policy limits, you are responsible for paying “out of pocket” the amount left unpaid after the insurance company settles the claim.

For a relatively small premium you can increase your limit of protection. The next liability level is $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident. Also available are “Combined” limits starting at $100,000. Combined single limit policies do not dictate a limit per person.

Forgive me for the skipped blog day yesterday... WE were preoccupied with two delta grade emergency responses for Whatcom County Fire District #1 in the afternoon, morning meetings left no time for blogging...
So we are Back... Yesterday I had a great Phone conversation with Mount Baker High School Principal King... who filled me in on the overall outcome of the two day exercise... Ending with the Trial of the Drunken Driver. Unfortunately I was unable to attend... With Mr. Kings undaunting enthusiasm and informative phone call I feel like we really made a difference educating our next generation of drivers. Today They all understand why we need to consistently make good choices and while making choices we need to have the fore thought to recognize the consequences. The Driver received the Maximum Sentence Plus the Maximum Fines... Carried with him for the rest of his life.
Think about how lucky we are to be here on "Earth Day 2010" Alive.

This is Tony Kelley and today we participated in a mock DUI drill as a volunteer with Whatcom County Fire District #1. WE were supported with Med Flight, 6 Troopers of the Washington State Patrol, 5 Sheriffs Deputies and 22 Volunteers, Officers, and Commissioners from Whatcom Fire Districts # 1, #14 and #16... Plus the undaunting support of the Mt Baker High School Administrators, Staff and Students... All systems of the Emergency Medical Service were tested and completed in this real life exercise of Life and Death due to senseless driving while intoxicated. Every aspect of a real life catastrophe were played out in a mere 40 minute exercise. Students actors were prepared with real looking moulage... and prompted in the facts of accident scene reality... and did they ever do a fantastic job of acting out the trauma and drama of a real life fatality auto accident... followed up with law enforcement and real life consequences.... Tomorrow on to the Court room and Trial of the guilty parties.

According to FEMA, flooding causes billions of dollars of property damage in the United States each year. If you are like many homeowners, however, you may be unaware that the standard homeowners insurance policy you buy does not cover flood losses. You may believe that you have a low risk to this peril, but FEMA reports that approximately 33 percent of all flood claims occur in communities in which flooding is deemed to be a low to moderate risk. So do you really need a separate flood policy? The following tips and ideas may prove helpful in answering this question.

Find out if you live in a community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), a prerequisite to qualify for Flood Insurance. Participating communities must agree to adopt and enforce certain floodplain management regulations, including building construction and zoning laws that minimize the risks of flood damage.
Go to www.floodsmart.gov and select "What's Your Flood Risk?" Enter your home address and this Web site will tell you whether you are in a low-, moderate-, or high-risk area.
Consider purchasing Flood Insurance even if you are in a low-to moderate-risk community. In these areas, you may be eligible for the Preferred Risk Policy, with premiums as low as $112 per year including coverage for your personal property.

Note that a flood policy does not take effect until 30 days after you purchase the coverage. Thus, trying to purchase coverage after the local meteorologist announces a flood alert for your community won't work.

Don't assume that the government will bail you out if you suffer a flood loss and don't have a Flood Insurance policy. That decision is a gamble you may not win. Remember that federal disaster assistance, if available, is usually a loan that must be paid back with interest.

Many have called us to ask how health care reform would affect them. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

Is it true that everyone has to buy health insurance?
Not until 2014. All Americans will be required to obtain coverage or face an annual penalty starting in 2014. The initial penalty will be $95. By 2016, the penalty will be the greater of two alternatives: a flat fee of $695 or 2.5% of income. There is an exemption for low-income people.

Do carriers have to accept everyone now?
The big changes in the law - the ones that could affect tens of millions of people - don't kick in until 2014. Those include insurance marketplaces called "exchanges"; rules requiring carriers to accept all applicants; and an expansion of state Medicaid programs.

I own a small business. Am I now required to provide health insurance for my employees?
Businesses that do not provide coverage will be assessed a $2,000 per-employee fee starting in 2014. The fee will be assessed on the company's entire workforce, minus an allowance. Companies with 50 or fewer workers are exempt from the requirement. A small-business tax credit will be available to help provide coverage for workers.

Does this mean we have a government-run plan?
No. Starting in 2014, people purchasing coverage through the exchanges will have the option of signing up for national plans overseen by the same federal office that manages the health plans available to members of Congress.

It is Thursday morning, and boy is the rain ever back! As I ventured out to work this morning, I couldn't help but notice that the roads are very wet once again. As I am sitting here looking back on the last year or so, it becomes ever so real that time truly does continue to march on. My two beautiful children have grown up, and made lives for themselves now. It is Monday morning, and we are all back at work. What a beautiful first day of Spring on Saturday!! I hope you all got a chance to get outside. My Husband and I took our Motorcyles over to Deception Pass and watched a whale swimming just off shore. I was so wonderful. Reminded me a great deal of Nothern California. Speaking of California... Here are some interesting facts for you in regards to Uninsured Motorist Property Damage Protection in California. Don't get caught without proper protection...

California auto insurance offers drivers the opportunity to purchase protection against uninsured mortorists, with uninsured motorist property damage coverage. You automatically have uninsured motorist coverage for your bodily injuries, but not for damage to your vehicle. Here are a few tips in regards to this all important protection:

1) Good News!! If you have collision coverage with you vehicle, you have a $0 deductible according to California auto insurance laws, and the limit of your repairs is the actual cash value of your car. If you do not have collision coverage, but do have UMPD, your deductible is still $0, but the limit for repairs or replacement is $3500.

2)California auto insurance law requires that you make impact with the uninsured vehicle to qualify for UMPD coverage. So, if you are forced from the road by another vehicle, but never make impact with them, according to California auto insurance law, you do not qualify for UMPD.

3) It is imparitive that you understand that most California auto insurance policies do not automatically include UMPD. You must inform your agent that you want the coverage, and your agent will make an "endorsement" to your coverage to add it.

4)And last, but not least.... California auto insurance laws do not require that you have a police report to qualify for UMPD. However, you must either identify the other party, or have their license plate number to qualify for California auto insurance UMPD.

Hello All,

Tony Kelley here updating you on our most recent adventures here with the Kelley Insurance Protection Team. My last entry took us literally just feet from our front door on the pavement of West Main Street here in Everson for the annual Nooksack Summer Festival Parade. In this entry we venture south to the high dessert area of Bend, Oregon.

Ben and I took off this past Thursday the 13th of August towards Bend. Over the years we have travelled to Bend a few times for various reasons and it has no doubt become one of our families favorite destinations. This time around we were invited by Michael Jan's to come down and visit him and his team of talented individuals that make up our mentoring group, Quantum Club. We arrived late Thursday night and quickly hit the hay, completely exhausted from our eight hour drive.

We woke up early the next morning, ate a quick breakfast and headed straight for one of our favorite hikes in Bend, Mount Bachelor. It was a cool morning in Bend, approximately 42 degrees Farenheit that made for a cool crisp air on the hike up. As we neared the top of the mountain the temperature had noticably dropped and the morning sunshine revealed the traces of rime ice on the backside of almost every rock on the summit. Luckily we were prepared, with extra clothes and a bit of food to get us reenergized before our hike down. Upon reaching our car at the bottom of the hill we rushed back to our hotel to freshin up before touring Insurance Profit Systems and Quantum Club headquarters. Touring the headquarters of Quantum Club allowed us to make a great connection the top notch mentoring group that is constantly supplying us with new ideas to better serve our customers. That evening we were invited to the home of Michael Jans where we mingled among fellow Quantum Club members and enjoyed wine as well as orderves.

On Saturday morning we woke up early once again but this time it wasn't to climb a mountain, instead we attended a special mentoring class with Michael Jans himself. We were catered to with a continental breakfast served at the Aubrey Glenn golf and country club. After our morning class we decided to get adventurous with some of the Quantum Club staff and went rafting down the Deschutes River. This was quite the exhilerating experience, especially through the class 3 section called "Big Eddy". That evening we were once again invited to the home of Michael Jans, this time for a wonderful dinner buffett of sorts with the likes of many of Michael's consultants. It was here that through a dinner conversation with one of Michael's accounting consultants that we came to find out about a coffee shop called "Strictly Organic".

Both Ben and I enjoy coffee immensely and thought we would try it out if we stumbled upon it.

It was Sunday afternoon after our final mentoring class with Michael as we were on our way our of Bend when we did just that after taking a wrong turn leaving us in front of Strictly Organic. After ordering up our coffee and sandwiches for lunch we realized that Strictly Organic is the coffee roaster and supplier of our favorite local coffee shop in Glacier, "The Wake-n-Bakery". We were able to chat with the owner Ronda, who was nice enough to give us a tour before she sent us on her way. Connections such as this one will keep us coming back to Bend in years to come.

From Bend we drove south to one of our nations greatest natural wonders, Crater Lake. We arrived at Crater Lake in the beautiful sunshine where Ben did some running while I hiked around. When Ben was done with his run we walked down a trail that was quite steep and full of switch backs to the waters edge. When Ben has had his experiences with lakes, including taking an unintenchinal plunge in Lake Tahoe a few years back, but of course with such beautiful water in front of him he had to jump in. After his refreshening plunge Ben and I walked back up the trail and headed due North towards our beloved state of Washington. After staying that night in Eugene we finished our drive home on Monday morning.

Nooksack Summer Festival

Hello there...Anthony Kelley here from the Kelley Insurance Protection Team,

This past Saturday the 11th of July the Protection Team and I joined the fun surrounding the Nooksack Summer Festival by hopping on a horse drawn wagon in the annual parade. Pulled by the beautiful draft horses of our friends at Reinbow Farms, we pleasantly rolled down Mainstreet in Everson, tossing our candy and million dollar bills to the crowds that lined the street. Aside from having a great time riding in the parade our wagon recieved Third place! After completing the parade I rushed off to cook hamburgers for the Everson Lions Club in Everson City Park...who knows, perhaps I cooked one for you! Anyhow, I hope all is well in your neck of the woods and be sure to check out the pictures I've attached to this post....Stay Tuned!
